ProductsOpen Image Generation System / Saccades
The Open Image Generation System (ESA member states free version) or Saccades (commercial version) is a tool that is created to easily create 3D visualization and 2D synoptics products for space applications, with a support for connections to real-time simulators. The tool comes with 'profiles' and editors to make it easy to establish the visualization, and also provides a GUI to configure the interface with EuroSim simulators. The 3D visualization component provides some enhancements to optimize it's use for the particular features of space applications, where for instance the distance to objects is very large, and the size difference between objects as planets and satellites are enormous.
Status OpenIGS version 1 has been has been in use in a variety of realtime simulation related facilities at the European Space and Technology Center (ESTEC). Lessons have been learned, and a largely improved solution has been produced by Airbus Defence and Space Nethernlands B.V. and Cesium, commonly referred to as OpenIGS2. This new version of OpenIGS is provisionally accepted and already in use with selected EuroSim customers. Version 2.1 will be released at the SESP workshop (25-27 July 2012), which will improve on some of the findings in the acceptance. A following 2nd release will complete the ESA acceptance improving ease of installation and distribution support as well as featuring an improved editor to make it easier for the user to configure OpenIGS2 for a specific mission. Procurement: ESA intends to provide licenses for OpenIGS2 free of charge to companies in ESA member states once distribution mechanisms are set up.
